First years at IPS, 1946-1950
In August 1945 the Pagets sold Ibstock Place House to the Froebel Educational Institute to rehouse the Demonstration School from Little Gaddesden. The house was in disarray, but the air raid shelters and huts, in the grounds and on the terrace, were converted into a dining room and classrooms. The school would continue to be a boarding school until 1976, though it did accept day pupils.
Classes were continued in this lovely home, formerly owned by the Pagets and the Duchess of Sutherland. A new location incurred new issues. Congestion on busy Clarence Lane resulted in a ruling which discouraged parents from dropping their children off on the school drive. This wasn't happily accepted by all, as noted by the anonymised letter below, which laments the inconvenience this new rule would cause to this father's morning work commute.
